Bring the teardown to your students.
A free, 45-minute live workshop that shows young people how online gambling apps — sports betting, poker, and online casinos — are engineered to keep them playing, and how to see the moves coming. No fear, no lectures. Just the playbook.
Request a workshopWhat it is
The Playbook workshop is the live version of this site. In 45 minutes, students learn to take apart the six core tactics online gambling products use — the near-miss, the “risk-free” bet, live/continuous play, the unpredictable reward, the chase, and the skill sell — and see how the same engineered moves run across online sports betting, poker, and casino apps, plus the prediction-market platforms (like Kalshi and Polymarket) that increasingly blur the line with betting. The throughline is the online delivery itself: 24/7 access, frictionless deposits, no natural pause. Then they practice spotting the moves in the wild. Online or in person, and free.
What it covers
- The six core tactics in plain language students recognize, shown across online sports betting, poker, and casino apps.
- A live “spot the trick” exercise that builds a transferable skill.
- The real math behind the bets that get pushed hardest.
- A short, practical defense: name the move, set limits, and where to get help.
Why host it
Fills a real, current gap
Online gambling is uniquely accessible — in every pocket, 24/7 — and students are saturated in its marketing well before they can legally play. Most schools feel they should address it and have no curriculum. This is turnkey and free.
Literacy, not moralizing
The frame is critical thinking and media literacy, not a scared-straight message. That's easier for students to hear and easier for you to stand behind.
Everything is sourced
Every claim traces to gambling regulators, the National Council on Problem Gambling, and published research — all verifiable on this site before you say yes.
It refers out responsibly
The workshop ends on the national problem-gambling helpline, so anyone who needs help knows exactly where to turn.
