What the workshop is
A 30-minute interactive session for high schoolers, college students, and youth groups. It walks through the Playbook in person, runs real-world scenarios, and ends with the SORTES quiz and an open Q&A. Available virtually (Google Meet) or in person at schools, libraries, and community centers in the New Jersey area.
What participants leave with
- The six tactics — named, explained, and recognizable.
- A concrete understanding of house edge, vig, and expected value.
- Their SORTES Profile and the specific Stoic counter-move for it.
- A list of warning signs for themselves and their friends.
- A one-page resource sheet with helplines and support organizations.
Workshop structure (30 minutes)
- Intro and icebreaker — 3 min
- What gambling actually is — short overview of the industry — 4 min
- The Playbook — six tactics with examples — 12 min
- The math — house edge, vig, expected value — 5 min
- Warning signs and where to get help — 3 min
- SORTES quiz — 2 min
- Open Q&A — 1 min, extends naturally if the host has time
Who it’s for
- High schools — assemblies, health classes, advisory periods, senior seminars.
- Libraries — teen and young-adult programming.
- Community centers and youth groups — faith-based, athletic, or civic organizations.
- College orientation programs — especially first-year students.
- Parent and educator audiences — modified version available on request.
Format
- Virtual — Google Meet, works for groups of 10 to 200+.
- In person — slide deck runs on any standard AV setup. Host provides room and projector.
What the host needs to provide
- A 35–40 minute time slot.
- Projector and screen, or shared Google Meet link.
- An adult point-of-contact on site.
- Permission to distribute the anonymous pre/post survey (the research data).
